ND Gladiator Rush, 2012 : North Dakota's 1st Gladiator Rush. ND's Gladiator Rush, presented by Kupper Subaru of Mandan, was held at Huff Hills Ski Area. Almost 3,000 competitors from the region (North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana) ran this all-terrain race: a 3.2 mile course with 12 natural and unnatural obstacles, such as the mountain of mud, fire jumps, and barbed wire mud crawl. 30 June 2012. This gallery contains photos from registration, parking area and the course. Darla Hueske, usually a competitor, sat this race out and volunteered for the event.

Prairie Fire ND : Friday, 27 July 2012 Drought. Wind. Prairie. Fire. Drought here in western North Dakota. Fire on the prairie today from a truck backfire. The situation was very tense for about an hour as the fire burned out of control. Thankfully the winds were not as strong, so the fire was contained. Thanks to the Richardton Fire Department and the crew of volunteers, the fire was contained.

Your Bio

I am Darla. My passion is photography, travel, and the arts.
My destiny is a wanderer with wonder.
I play as a Storyteller: Travels and travelers, Arts and artists, Yoga and yogis, Environmental issues and environmentalists. Much of my work is documentary.

I always carry a Nikon and sometimes the batteries are charged. I play the role of a photojournalist and documentarian, but....deep down....I am a Cindy Sherman.
Some day...some day, my friend, I will unleash my inner Cindy Sherman.

What's In MY TRAVEL BAG:
I have lived and worked in many different parts of the world. I am a resident of Egypt, but I tend to move around the world...a lot.

GEAR: (forever Nikon) Currently I shoot with a Nikon D700 using Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro, Nikkor 35-70mm, or Nikkor 200mm. a Point and Shoot camera. Nokia phone that shoots video. MacBook Pro.

ACCOUTREMENTS: Packet of tissues, small leather-bound notebook, drawing pencil, a pen from the last hotel where I stayed, Burt's Bees shimmery lip gloss, Clinique City Block sunscreen SPF 40, fingernail file, tweezers, mini mag-light.

NECESSITY: Large neutral-colored scarf that can be used as a veil, a neck scarf, or a coverup.

GEAR BAG: Everything goes into a Domke Reporter's Satchel in drab green.
